About the event
When Intellectualizers Know Better but "Can’t" Do Better: Treating Self-Silencing and Protective Parts in Trauma Therapy
Workshop Description
High-achieving trauma survivors often present as insightful, articulate, and highly self-aware. They can identify patterns, name attachment wounds, and explain the origins of their behaviors—yet remain stuck in cycles of self-silencing, overfunctioning, emotional shutdown, and relational self-abandonment. Traditional insight-oriented interventions alone are often insufficient for this population.
This advanced clinical training introduces a somatic and parts-based framework for working with high-functioning clients whose intellectualization and competence mask unresolved protective adaptations. Participants will learn how self-silencing operates as a survival strategy, how protective parts override insight at moments of emotional risk, and how to sequence interventions that build nervous system capacity before pursuing behavioral change. Through case examples and applied clinical strategies, attendees will leave with practical tools to move beyond insight and facilitate deeper emotional integration, increased self-trust, and meaningful therapeutic progress.
